Composting is a fantastic way to reduce waste and create nutrient-rich soil for your garden. It can be tough to do, especially if you live in a city or have limited space. That's why I'm excited to share my experience building compost bins with you.

These bins are designed with adjustable walls and lids to keep pests out. The front of each bin has a slotted design that lets you change the height of the walls. There are three bays, each corresponding to a stage of composting: filling, cooking, and ready-to-use. The adjustable walls make it easy to customize each bay's size to suit your needs.

When building the compost bins, I used Pro Wood pressure-treated lumber, which is specifically made for ground contact. Pro Wood is an environmentally preferred product that contains micronized copper azole, a substance that resists termites and fungus without introducing harmful chemicals into your compost.

To keep the compost inside and allow for airflow, I used hardware cloth. I also built lids for the compost dolls using two-by-twos and more hardware cloth to keep pests out.

Minimal maintenance needed for these compost bins! Toss in green and brown stuff as you get 'em. Let 'em chill till they're good to go. Three bays? Oh yeah, keep that compost rollin'. You'll always have a bay set to rock.
